About Simon: It's pretty simple. The thing about Simon is he goes big. He's regularly well beyond 20 feet above the deck when skiing pipe, and there's not a rider in the world--on skis or a snowboard--that can boast about boosting higher than Simon. His signature truck driver 540 in the pipe has led him to gold medals twice at the X Games and multiple podiums at events like the US Open, World Superpipe Championships, World Skiing Invitational, Orage Euro, and Icer Air.

A career wrought with competitive prowess has also thrown Simon many obstacles to overcome. The most infamous was his 2005 crash after overshooting an 80-foot gap by 100 feet. Landing in the icy flats traveling 60 mph, Simon ruptured his spleen and fractured his pelvis in three places. He admits he could have died. Six months later he was back on his skis, training, and a few months later nabbed a podium at X Games for superpipe.

Back to full form, the 21-year-old has sights set high for 2008. This season he's already competed in all the big air events and taken a podium in every one: the only skier to do so. In the Freestyle.ch in Switzerland he placed 3rd, a 2nd at the Icer Air in San Francisco, and he finished 3rd at the King of Style in Sweden. Keep an eye out for Simon at the Winter X Games and the US Open, gunning for gold. Also look for him at the inaugural North American Open in February: an event he co-founded with Red Bull teammate Jon Olsson.
